Penicillin G potassium powder for injections is indicated in the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible strains of the designated microorganisms. Penicillin G potassium powder for injection, or benzylpenicillin, is a type of penicillin.
Benzyl penicillin powder for injection is used to treat mild to moderate upper respiratory tract infections, venereal diseases (gonorrhea, syphilis), and prophylaxis of rheumatic fever or chorea caused by penicillin G–sensitive microorganisms that are susceptible to the low and very prolonged serum levels common to this dosage form.
It is also a treatment for aspiration pneumonia, bacterial endocarditis, cellulitis, meningitis, and septic arthritis.

Common side effects include skin rash, no matter how mild; red or scaly skin; fever, chills, swollen glands, muscle or joint pain, fast heartbeats, general ill feeling; a light-headed feeling, like you might pass out; severe stomach pain, diarrhea that is watery or bloody; little or no urinating; bruising, severe tingling, numbness, pain, muscle weakness; seizure (convulsions); or unusual changes in mood or behavior, bruising, or irritation around the IV needle.
