Indications and Usage
It is indicated in the treatment of for low concentration of penicillin, bacterial infections and other conditions.
Fortified procaine penicillin works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses; interfering with the formation of peptidoglycan cross- linkage of bacterial cell wall.
Procaine penicillin is specifically indicated for syphilis, respiratory tract infections where compliance with oral treatment is unlikely, cellulitis, erysipelas. Alongside Pen V and Erythromycin, it is used to treat strep throat. Procaine penicillin is also used as adjunct in the treatment of anthrax.
Procaine penicillin is indicated in the treatment of moderately severe infections in both adults and pediatric patients due to penicillin-G-susceptible microorganisms that are susceptible to the low and persistent serum levels.
Do not take fortified procaine penicillin powder for injection if:
- You are hypersensitive to any of the ingredients;
- You have history of any kidney disease or have renal impairment;
- You have Clostridium difficile associated diarrhea (CDAD);
- You are breastfeeding.
Administration of fortified procaine penicillin powder for injection for injections during pregnancy and lactation is not advisable. Please consult a health care professional before using.
Careful monitoring of patients with streptococcal infections should be taken into consideration for proper therapy which is sufficient to eradicate the organism and to prevent streptococcal sequelae.

Administration and Dosage
Fortified procaine penicillin powder for injection should be administered intramuscularly.

Procaine penicillin powder for injection interacts with other drugs such as: Probenecid, alcuronium, amiodarone, amitriptyline, amphotericin B, artemininin. Procaine penicillin also interacts with alcohol.

Symptoms of overdose include trouble breathing and passing out. These symptoms have to be reported to the medical health professional and seek a medical help urgently.
Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported with the use of procaine penicillin powder for injection. Onset of pseudomembranous colitis symptoms may occur during or after antibiotic treatment.
