Ampicillin Sodium + Sulbactam Sodium Powder for Injections is indicated for skin and skin structure infections caused by beta-lactamase producing strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli.
Ampicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall mucopeptide synthesis. Sulbactam inhibits plasmid-mediated beta-lactamase enzymes commonly found in microorganisms resistant to ampicillin.
Ampicillin sodium + sulbactam sodium is also a treatment for intra-abdominal infections caused by beta-lactamase producing strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Bacteroides spp, and Enterobacter spp.
Also treated for gynecological infections caused by beta-lactamase producing strains of Escherichia coli, and Bacteroides spp. (including B. fragilis).
