AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Zolmitriptan nasal sprays.

Zolmitriptan nasal spray is used to treat the symptoms of migraine headaches (severe, throbbing headaches that sometimes are accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea and sensitivity to sound and light).

Zolmitriptan is in a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceutical medicine, some unwanted effects can occur from the use zolmitriptan nasal spray. Always consult a physician for medical advice before use.

Common side effects may include: irregular heartbeat, dizziness, nausea, headache, mental/mood changes, trouble sleeping, shaking (tremors), unusual sweating, unusual weakness.

Indications and Usage

Zolmitriptan is in a class of medications called selective serotonin receptor agonists. It is indicated for the acute treatment of migraine with or without aura in adults.

It works by narrowing blood vessels around the brain, stopping pain signals from being sent to the brain, and blocking the release of certain natural substances that cause pain, nausea, and other symptoms of migraine.


Do not take zolmitriptan nasal spray if:

  • You smoke or if you are overweight;
  • You have heart disease or had an heart attack;
  • You liver or kidney disease;
  • You have Raynaud’s disease (problems with blood flow to the fingers, toes, ears, and nose), or ischemic bowel disease (bloody diarrhea and stomach pain caused by decreased blood flow to the intestines).

Consult with your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If you got pregnant while using zolmitriptan nasal spray, call your doctor.

You should know that zolmitriptan nasal spray may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Administration and Dosage

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. The recommended dose to treat allergic reactions of the nose is 1-2 spray in each nostril three times a day. It is usually used every 8-10 hours as needed, but not more often than twice in a 24-hour period.


Consult with your doctor about medications you are taking or existing medical conditions you have before your treatment with zolmitriptan nasal spray.

It may interact with acetaminophen antidepressants such as amitriptyline, amoxapine, clomipramine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine nortriptyline, protriptyline and trimipramin; aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen and naproxen; cimetidine; oral contraceptives and selective serotonin/norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs) such as desvenlafaxine duloxetine, sibutramine and venlafaxine.


Symptoms of overdose include drowsiness or sleepiness. These symptoms have to be reported to the medical health professional.
