Budesonide belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It is used to prevent and treat seasonal and year-round allergy symptoms such as stuffy/runny nose, itchy eyes/nose/throat, sneezing. It is also used in the treatment of signs and symptoms of nasal polyps.

Indications and Usage

Budesonide nasal spray is used to relieve seasonal allergy symptoms of the nose such as stuffy/runny nose, itching, sneezing, and itchy eyes/nose/throat, sneezing. Budesonide nasal spray is for nasal use only


Do not take budesonide nasal spray if:

  • You are allergic to any of the ingredients;
  • You have infections such as tuberculosis;
  • You had any nose injury, ulcers or any surgery;
  • You have eye problems such as glaucoma and cataracts.

It is unknown if budesonide is excreted in breast milk. Consult your doctor or health care professional before inhaling the nasal spray in pregnant or nursing mothers.

Avoid contact with people who have infections that may spread to others (such as chickenpox, measles, and flu). Consult your doctor if you have been exposed to an infection or for more details.

Though it is unlikely, this medication may slow down a child’s growth if used for a long time.

Administration and Dosage

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. The recommended dose to treat allergic reactions of the nose is 1-2 spray in each nostril twice daily.
