Product Information

General Information:
AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Amikacin injections.

Amikacin injection is used for the treatment of gram-negative infections and other serious infections. As an aminoglycoside antibiotic, amikacin binds to part of the bacteria, blocks protein synthesis, and stops bacterial growth. Amikacin sulfate injection can also sometimes used to treat tuberculosis with other medications.

Amikacin can cause serious kidney, hearing, and nerve problems. This risk of developing these problems is greater if you are taking other interacting medications. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any unusual symptoms. This drug is injected intravenously or intramuscularly every 8 or 12 hours.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of amikacin injection. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use.

Common side effects include, but may not be limited to dizziness, hearing problems, rash, swelling, wheezing, and muscle weakness. Seek medical attention if the following develop: diarrhea, nausea, and pain where injected.

For a comprehensive list of all possible effects, consult your doctor.

If any symptom persists or gets worse, or you notice any other symptom, then please call your doctor immediately.

Additional Information

Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before using amikacin sulfate injection.

Patient should be under close clinical observation because of potential toxicity associated with use. Tests, such as hearing and blood tests, may be done to observe side effects. Also, tell your doctor or dentist you are using amikacin injection before surgery.

Usual dosage is 15m/kg/day, given intramuscularly or intravenously, divided into 2 or 3 equal doses administered at equal intervals. Antibiotics need to be given consistently under strict schedule to ensure optimal therapeutic effect.
Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking before your treatment with amikacin sulfate injection. Make sure that your doctor is aware if you are taking a diuretic. Also, let your doctor know if you have kidney disease, hearing problems, myasthenia gravis. If you notice changes in hearing, let your doctor now immediately. If infection does not improve or worsens, call your doctor.
