AdvaCare is a GMP manufacturer of Hyoscine Butylbromide injection.

Hyoscine butylbromide, also known as scopolamine butylbromide, is an antispasmodic used to relieve muscle cramps or spasms in the stomach, intestines, bladder, and urethra. Hyoscine butylbromide injections reduce the muscle spasms by relaxing the smooth muscles. This medication can also be used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. The injection form is typically administered into the muscle or vein by a healthcare professional in a hospital or clinic setting.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of hyoscine butylbromide. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use.

Common side effects include, but may not be limited to: temporary blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, decreased perspiration, dizziness, thirst, flushing, and nausea. Driving or operating machinery should be avoided as it may cause drowsiness or blurred vision. Do not operate machinery until you know how the medication works on you.

Do NOT use hyoscine butylbromide if:

  • You are allergic to hyoscine or other containing ingredients;
  • You have glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, paralytic ileus, tachycardia, hypertrophy with urination retention, megacolon, or pyloric stenosis.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of hyoscine butylbromide during pregnancy or breast feeding, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before administering. This medication should only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks.

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is: 20-40mg IV several times a day. Usual dose for children is: 0.3 – 0.6mg/kg several times a day. Maximum daily dose for adults is 100mg and for children is 1.2mg/kg.

Alcohol should be avoided while taking this medication as it can increase drowsiness. There are possible interactions with other medications, such as antidepressants, quinine, antipsychotics, antihistamines, and other anticholinergics. Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking or medical conditions you have before your treatment with hyoscine butylbromide.
