What is Omeprazole?
Active Ingredients: Omeprazole
Omeprazole Capsules are a drug used to lower stomach acid production. It's indicated for the treatment of stomach and esophagus conditions, like acid reflux disease and esophagitis. It relieves the symptoms, like heartburn, coughing, and swallowing problems, that are associated with these conditions.
Omeprazole is used to help prevent and heal gastric ulcers. This medication is also used together with antibiotics to treat gastric ulcers caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). It may also be prescribed to help prevent esophageal cancer.
Omeprazole is classified as a proton pump inhibitor. The active ingredient works by inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase system, therefore blocking acid from being secreted into the stomach. Proton pump inhibitors typically take up to 4 days to reach full efficiency.

Uses
What is Omeprazole used for?
It's used to relieve heartburn, indigestion, and other symptoms associated with excess stomach acid production. It is used in the treatment of:
- duodenal and gastric ulcers
- peptic ulcers
- ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria (combined with other medications)
- gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- dyspepsia
Omeprazole is also used to prevent gastrointestinal tract bleeding in some situations.
How should Omeprazole Capsules be used?
This medication has been manufactured to be taken orally. Typically, Omeprazole Capsules are taken in the morning before meals or on an empty stomach.
What dose should be taken?
The usual dose for adults is 20mg taken once per day for up to 4 weeks.

Side Effects
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of Omeprazole Capsules.
Common side effects include, but may not be limited to:
- nausea

Precautions
Do NOT use Omeprazole Capsules if:
- You have liver disease.
