General Information:
Calcium folinate tablets, or folinic acid, is an adjuvant manufactured and used in cancer chemotherapy involving the drug methotrexate. Calcium folinate belongs to a vitamin B group of medicines and is used to reduce the harmful effects of certain types of anti-cancer medicine, and treat a megaloblastic type of anemia.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of calcium folinate tablets. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to allergic reactions which may include rash, itching or hives on the skin, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, throat or tongue which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing (also known as an anaphylactic reaction).

Do NOT use calcium folinate tablets if:

  • You are allergic to calcium folinate or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
  • You are trying to treat a type of anemia caused by vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • You take anti-neoplastic folic acid antagonists, such as methotrexate for the purpose of reducing or preventing clinical toxicity.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of calcium folinate during pregnancy or breast feeding, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking this medicine.

Possible interactions may occur with other pharmaceutical products. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before starting your treatment with calcium folinate tablets.
