General Information:
Calcium folinate powder for injection is an adjuvant used in cancer chemotherapy in combination with methotrexate, and can also be used in combination with the chemotherapy agent 5-fluorouracil. Calcium folinate is an active form of folic acid, and its powder for Injection is used to treat megaloblastic anemia’s that are not caused by vitamin B12 deficiency, and to also counteract the toxic effects of antineoplastic folic acid antagonists. This powder can also reduce the harmful side effects of certain anti-cancer medicines.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of calcium folinate. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Seek medical attention if the following develop: skin itching, convulsions, difficulty in breathing or swallowing.

Do NOT use calcium folinate powder for injection if:

  • You have pernicious anemia and other megaloblastic anemia’s secondary to vitamin B12 deficiency.
  • You are hypersensitive to any of the compounds used within the powder for injection.

Use of calcium folinate during pregnancy or breast feeding has not been proven to be harmful, however you should still consult your doctor or health care professional before using calcium folinate.

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is 5% diluted with glucose intravenous infusion or 0.9% sodium chloride intravenous. These doses can vary according to the type of disease.
