How should a Butterfly Bandage be used?

To use butterfly bandages, begin by cleaning the wound area gently with mild soap and water, then pat it dry with a clean towel or sterile gauze. Align the edges of the wound as closely as possible and hold them together with the fingers or a clean pair of tweezers.

Take a butterfly bandage and position it horizontally across the wound, starting from one side and extending it over the wound, leaving a small gap between the adhesive strips in the middle. Firmly press down on the adhesive strips of the butterfly bandage to secure the wound edges together, ensuring that the bandage sticks well to the skin on both sides of the wound.

If necessary, apply additional butterfly bandages in parallel, spacing them evenly across the wound to provide extra support. Avoid pulling the butterfly bandage too tightly, as it should provide gentle support without cutting off circulation.

Trim any excess length of the butterfly bandage if it extends beyond the wound edges, but leave enough bandage to ensure proper adhesion. Once the butterfly bandages are applied, monitor the wound for any signs of infection or complications and seek medical attention if necessary.
