General Information:
Artesunate tablets are used for the treatment of uncomplicated cases of malaria. This medicine is active only for attacks due to Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite. It is a water-soluble hemisuccinate derivative of dihydroartemisinin.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals, some unwanted effects can occur from the use of artesunate tablet. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Seek medical attention if the following develop: slow heart rate, mild gastrointestinal disturbances, abnormal liver function tests, low counts of pre-stages of red blood cells, low white blood cell counts, severe allergic reactions, dizziness, ringing in ears and rash, sometimes with hives.

Do NOT use artesunate tablets if:

  • You are hypersensitive to artesunate or to any of the other ingredients within the tablet.

Artesunate tablet should only be used during pregnancy if your doctor has told you to do so.

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is: 2 tablets twice daily per the first day and 1 tablet twice a day for the subsequent days (generally 5-7 days in total). Usual does for children is: 1 tablet twice daily and 1 tablet daily for the subsequent days.

Possible interactions with artesunate tablets may occur if you are taking this medicine in combination with amodiaquine, or with efavirenz. Consult with your doctor about any medication you are taking, before your treatment with artesunate.
