What is Promethazine?
Active Ingredients: Promethazine
Promethazine Injection is used to control nausea and vomiting associated with operations, motion sickness, or other causes. This medication may be used with other drugs to treat severe allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. It may also be administered to prevent some types of allergic reactions.
Promethazine is also indicated as a sedative to be used during medical procedures or childbirth. It is sometimes administered to improve the efficiency of some opioids, such as meperidine. Injections of Promethazine are typically given if a patient is unable to take this medication by mouth.
Promethazine is classified in the family of antihistamines known as phenothiazines. It is an H1-antagonist with anticholinergic, sedative, and antiemetic effects, and it also displays some local anesthetic properties. Promethazine works by blocking the effects of histamine.
