General Information:
Idarubicin Hydrochloride Powder for Injection, or 4-demethoxydaunorubicin, is an anthracycline antileukemic drug, which belongs to the family of drugs called antitumor antibiotics. It works by inserting itself into DNA and then preventing the DNA from unwinding. Idarubicin hydrochloride powder for injection in combination with other approved antileukemic drugs, such as cytosine arabinoside, is indicated for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia in adults.

Side Effects:
As with all pharmaceuticals some unwanted effects can occur from the use of idarubicin hydrochloride powder for injection. Always consult a doctor or health care professional for medical advice before use. Common side effects include, but may not be limited to: nausea, vomiting, hair loss, diarrhea, mental status changes, pulmonary problems. Seek medical attention if the following develop: hemorrhage, mucositis, cardiac problems, convulsions.

Additional Information

Do NOT use idarubicin hydrochloride powder for injection if:

  • You have pre-existing bone marrow suppression induced by previous drug therapy or radiotherapy.

There is little evidence with regards to the use of idarubicin during pregnancy or breast feeding, and so consult your doctor or health care professional before taking idarubicin hydrochloride powder for injection.

Refer to your doctor or pharmacist for guidelines on dosage. Do not exceed what they advise. Usual dose for adults is 12 mg/m2 daily for 3 days by slow injection with cytarabine.

Idarubicin should not be mixed with other drugs. Consult with your doctor about any medications you are taking, before your treatment with idarubicin hydrochloride powder for injection.
